Its A Colorful Life: Spring Tour

I think we are all excited spring is finally happening! It was a looooong winter I mean can we talk about all the rain?! Every March I go through a spring transformation in the house and I pull out all my floral and bright patterns for my tables, chairs and couches and bookshelves. This year I get to show it to you all because I’m participating in the It’s A Colorful Life Spring tour hosted by my lovely friends Jeweled Interiors and DImples and Tangles. The tour started yesterday (Tuesday) and runs through Friday featuring 15 beautiful and colorful blogs. If you’ve been looking for inspiration, search no more, these ladies will have all the inspo you need!

I always start with the easiest projects when revamping my house for spring so first on my list was to change out my breakfast nook cushions with a bright patterned fabric from the Fabric Place Basement. This is a quick change out because I use my tried and true method of recovering. Tutorial coming soon but here’s a hint: it involved duct tape.

Its amazing what a bright colored fabric can do for a space. I added some flowers and colorful pillows and it was instant spring in my kitchen!

Next I conquered my living room. I took it up a notch this year by painting the backs of my built in bookshelves a very subtle pink. So subtle actually that none of my boys, including my husband, have even noticed and we’re going on a month people! Though it was subtle it was the perfect way to lighten up my bookshelves.

I also cleared out all the original items housed in the bookshelves and focused on the less is more method-minus the libations shelf of course!. I incorporated fun and colorful finds and paired them with family heirlooms like the telephones, trucks and railroad light. My adage is everything in your home should tell a story and with my bright additions, there’s a new focus on the family items that house the stories.

I decided to carry on the pink theme and added in new throw pillows for the chairs and couch and bright hued items for the coffee table. Who else is in LOVE with that runner I added to the chair? Yep, you read that right, that’s a table runner! Who says you can’t use it as a throw? I finished the coffee table styling by adding in a bouquet of tulips.

I couldn’t leave our dining room out of the tour. You know I like a good seasonal tablescape that incorporates layers of patterns, florals and textures. This one does just that finished off by a soft floral centerpiece.
